D-Link at CES 2014: The New Wireless Stuff

I’ve tried none of these announced products (they’re new, for Pete’s sake!), nor is this posting an endorsement of any of them. But I do enjoy following D-Link.  To me, they are one of those companies that does well in the in the consumer space, can be surprisingly innovative in ProSumer and SMB, and occasionally flirts with the Enterprise across a curious range of client-oriented and networking products. They’re even in the cloud, with PowerCloud. Given all of that, you just never know what they’ll come up with.

Here’s the word from CES on some of D-Link’s new offerings (remember- this is the CONSUMER Electronics Show when you consider these):

  • Wi-Fi Baby Camera (DCS-825L) ($179.99) – The Wi-Fi Baby Camera is the most versatile baby monitoring solution available on the market today, providing in-home and remote monitoring using a smartphone or tablet and the new and free mydlink Baby Mobile app. The Baby Camera features 720p HD video, integrated motion and sound detection, temperature sensing, instant push alerts, night vision technology, integrated lullabies, and video recording. Using the mydlink Baby Mobile app parents can monitor baby from anywhere with a Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G connection, anytime.
  • mydlink Network Video Recorder (DNR-312L) ($379.99) The new mydlink Network Video Recorder with HDMI output provides a feature-rich, cost-effective DIY surveillance solution for today’s small business owners. With a fully integrated HDMI port, the Network Video Recorder provides a standalone solution for viewing up to nine cameras on a connected HD monitor, or remotely using the mydlink service and free mydlink app for smartphones and tablets. Users do not need a dedicated PC for simultaneous real-time monitoring, playback and recording. Instead, with mydlink technology users can playback video and view live video streams using a web browser, or remotely view on an iOS or Android mobile device via the free mydlink View-NVR app.
  • Wireless AC1200 Dual Band Gigabit Range Extender (DAP-1650) ($89.99) and Wireless AC750 Dual Band Range Extender (DAP-1520) ($59.99) – The new and easy-to-use 11AC dual band range extenders are ideal for pushing wireless signals to those hard-to-reach areas for seamless video streaming, online gaming and other everyday internet activities. For increased flexibility, the extenders are backwards compatible, enabling users to extend their existing 11N and 11AC network devices. Both extenders feature an enhanced user interface for advanced configuration settings and one-touch configuration.
  • Wi-Fi AC750 Portable Router and Charger (DIR-510L) ($99.99) – The AC750 Portable Router and Charger offers travelers and mobile users fast speeds and dual band performance, turning any connection into a fast 11AC hotspot. With a built-in high capacity rechargeable battery, users can provide power to their devices in-a-pinch. In addition, using the mydlink SharePort app, users can upload, download and stream multimedia and documents to and from a USB drive attached to the DIR-510L directly to their smartphone or tablet device.

Gotta love CES!
